Florida AG distributes $20,000 in phone cards to military through settlement

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Friday that she distributed $20,000 in prepaid phone cards to U.S. Central Command as part of a settlement reached with AT&T.

AT&T allegedly misrepresented material terms of its offer or sale of prepaid phone cards to consumers. Under the terms of an assurance of voluntary compliance, AT&T agreed to provide U.S. Central Command located at MacDill Air Force Base with $20,000 in phone cards.

"It is wonderful that we are able to provide $20,000 in prepaid phone cards to our members of the military through this settlement with AT&T," Bondi said.

As part of the agreement, AT&T also agreed to clearly and conspicuously inform consumers of any material fee related to the prepaid phone cards, not to make any implied or express misrepresentations related to the offer or sale of its prepaid phone cards and to disclose on the front of any prepaid phone cards a specified number of minutes and the circumstances in which the minutes will be delivered.

AT&T also agreed not to engage in any deceptive or unfair practices that would violate the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.
