Report: Pa. AG considering U.S. Senate run

Kane

HARRISBURG, Pa. (Legal Newsline) -- Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane reportedly is considering a run for the U.S. Senate.

Sources told the Philadelphia Daily News that Kane, a Democrat, is "very interested" in running in 2016. She would face Republican Sen. Pat Toomey.

Kane, who spent most of her career as a prosecutor in the Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office, is the first woman ever elected attorney general in Pennsylvania and the first Democrat to be elected since it became an elective office in 1980.

The Scranton native never before sought elected office prior to her run for attorney general.

In 2012, she bested former U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy in the state Democratic primary before going on to defeat district attorney David Freed in the general election.
