Jonbruning

LINCOLN, Neb. (Legal Newsline) -- Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning has colon cancer.

Bruning revealed the news Wednesday.

The Omaha World-Herald reported that the attorney general will undergo surgery at a Lincoln-area hospital Thursday.

Bruning said the cancer was discovered before Thanksgiving during a colonoscopy. A finger-sized polyp was removed and later found to be cancerous.

He told reporters he still plans to run for re-election.

Bruning, a Republican, was a member of the state Legislature from 1996 until resigning in 2002, when he was first elected as the state's top lawyer.

Nebraska's primary is set for May 13, 2014. The general election is Nov. 4, 2014.
