TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) -- Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, along with Gov. Rick Scott, is being accused of breaking the state's public records laws.
The Associated Press reported Monday that Tallahassee-area attorney Steven Andrews is suing Bondi and Scott after trying for months -- unsuccessfully, he contends -- to obtain emails and other documents.
"We finally got tired of them violating the Florida Constitution and not producing public records," Andrews told the AP.
But a spokeswoman for Bondi told the AP the office has provided Andrews with information he sought in 12 different requests.
And a spokeswoman for the governor told the news service the administration has turned over information Andrews sought in another 78 requests.
Andrews currently is trying to buy the land near the governor's mansion, where his law office is located. The state also is trying to buy the property.
A court has sided with the attorney in the case, but the state is trying to appeal.
The emails and documents Andrews is seeking would help explain why the state, which did not want the property at first, has changed its mind.
In the three lawsuits filed Monday -- against Bondi, Scott and the Department of State -- Andrews wants a court to force them to hand over all records and to pay his attorney fees.
