FRANKFORT, Ky. (Legal Newsline) -- Andy Beshear, son of Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, filed papers Thursday to run for state attorney general in 2015.
Andy Beshear, a Democrat, cited his "passion for public service" and "deep desire to protect Kentucky families."
"As an attorney, I have worked hard to ensure that my clients receive the justice they seek and deserve in the court of law," he said in a statement. "Today my family and I have decided to take the skills I have learned in fighting for Kentucky communities, businesses both small and large and community organizations to fighting for all of the people of this great Commonwealth.
"If elected, I will work to make every Kentucky community, family, business and school safe and prosperous."
Beshear is currently an attorney at Stites & Harbison.
He's been recognized as one of the "Best Lawyers in America," as a "Rising Star" by publication SuperLawyers and, most recently, was the first Kentucky lawyer to be named the country's top consumer lawyer by publication Lawyer Monthly.
He resides in Louisville, with wife Britainy and their two young children.
On Thursday, Beshear also announced his campaign co-chairs: Lt. Gov. Jerry Abramson, former Supreme Court Justice James Keller and Commonwealth's Attorney for Campbell County Michelle Snodgrass.
Current Attorney General Jack Conway, a Democrat, cannot run in 2015 because he is term-limited.
