TOPEKA, Kan. (Legal Newsline) - Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced Tuesday that a Missouri lawn service will pay $10,000 to resolve allegations that it violated the Kansas No-Call Act.
The Belton, Mo.-based Pro Turf Lawn Service Inc. was the subject of complaints from four Johnson County residents that were made to Schmidt's office. Starting in October 2012, Pro Turf Lawn Service allegedly called the consumers to solicit the sale of landscaping and lawn services and products, even though the consumers were on the Do Not Call list.
Pro Turf Lawn Service agreed to pay $10,000 in civil penalties and fees.
"Companies doing business in Kansas must respect Kansas laws," Schmidt said. "Consumers who have taken the time to register their phone numbers on the Do Not Call list have an expectation that their privacy will be respected."
Pro Turf Lawn Service also agreed to refrain from further violations of the Kansas No-Call Act. Shawnee County District Court Judge Rebecca Crotty approved the consent judgment last week.
Thus far in 2013, Schmidt's office obtained judgments against 13 businesses for No-Call Act violations. The companies were ordered to pay a combined total of more than $1.7 million in penalties and fees.
