TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) -- Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Key West lawyer Edwin A. Scales III to Florida's Third District Court of Appeal.
Scott made the announcement Friday.
Scales, 47, has been the president of Edwin A. Scales III PA since 2000, and of counsel with GrayRobinson PA since 2003. His practice consists primarily of commercial and appellate litigation.
Currently, Scales is the general counsel of the Florida Citrus Commission, vice chair of the Florida Keys Community College Board, vice chair of the Florida Commission on Ethics and is a member of the Florida Bar Board of Governors.
Previously, Scales was the general counsel for Historic Tours of America, practiced with Lane Trohn Clarke Bertrand and Williams, and served as a Key West city commissioner.
"Ed has demonstrated a strong command of the law through his decades of legal experience and public service," Scott said in a statement.
"I am confident he will be a superior judge and will serve Florida's families with honesty, integrity and true devotion to the rule of law."
Scales will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Angel Cortinas.
According to the Third District Court of Appeal, Scales is the first Monroe County lawyer appointed to the court's bench since its creation in 1957.
