Wisconsin AG announces action against Milwaukee-area podiatrist

Vanhollen

MADISON, Wis. (Legal Newsline) - Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced a lawsuit Friday against a Milwaukee-area podiatrist and his business for allegedly misleading his patients regarding the acceptance of their insurance.

John Lanham and his business, John S. Lanham DPM & Associations S.C., allegedly violated Wisconsin state law by engaging in untrue, deceptive or misleading statements made with the intent to sell services or goods.

Lanham and his staff members allegedly told patients on a daily basis that the business would accept the insurance of their patients when that was not the case. Lanham allegedly claimed his business would accept the insurance when he was not in the network of providers pre-approved by any commercial insurance company.

The lawsuit alleges that Lanham is aware of what potential patients are asking when they inquire if his office accepts their insurance. The suit alleges Lanham understands that patients are attempting to confirm that their care from the defendants will be paid for as an approved provider by their insurance. Therefore, the lawsuit alleges that Lanham and his staff are making deceptive and misleading statements to patients about insurance coverage.

John S. Lanham DPM & Associates S.C. previously did business as The Greater Milwaukee Foot & Ankle Ambulatory Surgery Center.
