Report: Mo. House Speaker considering run for state AG

ST. LOUIS (Legal Newsline) -- Missouri's House Speaker, Tim Jones, is reportedly mulling a run for state attorney general in 2016.

Jones, a Republican, hinted at a possible run Tuesday, according to Missourinet.com.

Jones, who is term limited, previously said he was considering several state offices.

But this week, the House Speaker said he is being "greatly encouraged" to consider the Attorney General's Office.

"As a former prosecuting attorney, it's something that's interested me," he said, the website reported.

"It's also a working office, very much like the Speaker's office, and we're taking a very hard look at that because I'm getting encouragement from all across the state to do so."

Jones told Missourinet that a formal announcement wouldn't be made for "a while."

Jones currently practices in the litigation department of Chesterfield law firm Doster Ullom LLC. He represents businesses in the areas of corporate, transactional, real estate and tax assessment appeals.

He started his career as an assistant prosecuting attorney in New York.

Jones was first elected to the Missouri General Assembly in November 2006, and re-elected in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

Current Attorney General Chris Koster, a Republican-turned-Democrat, has said he intends to run for governor in 2016.
