BOSTON (Legal Newsline) -- A group of state attorneys general will hold its annual summer meeting in Boston next week.
The National Association of Attorneys General, or NAAG, will gather at the Westin Copley Place Monday through Wednesday to discuss a variety of legal issues, including U.S. Supreme Court cases and recent decisions, online intellectual property crimes, tobacco policy and enforcement, and veterans' issues.
Other topics the 36-six state and territorial attorneys general plan to discuss include the Communications Decency Act's Safe Harbor provision and the Boston Marathon bombings and response.
Section 230, or the Safe Harbor provision, of the CDA states that "no provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider."
It is intended to give Internet service providers, or ISPs, and other suppliers of online services a measure of protection against libel suits and similar actions arising from statements made by people who use their services.
The April 15 marathon bombings -- two pressure cooker bombs exploded near the race's finish line -- killed three and injured more than 200.
Also at the meeting, NAAG will elect its new slate of officers for 2013-14 and host its annual awards ceremony.
This includes NAAG's most prestigious honor, the Kelley-Wyman Award, given each year to an attorney general who has done the most to achieve the association's objectives.
