ALBANY, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) -- New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman reportedly is looking into whether owners of fast food restaurants are cheating state workers out of wages.
CNN reported earlier this month that Schneiderman's office has issued one subpoena to a fast food chain's parent company and is looking at other franchisees in the state.
A spokesman for the attorney general would not tell CNN at which companies the office is looking.
Fast Food Forward, a coalition of fast food workers groups, released a report this month showing "widespread" wage theft in the industry.
Such theft, it says, includes working overtime without pay and being paid with checks that bounce.
The report was based on hundreds of interviews with McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's and Papa John's workers in the state.
Fast Food Forward, which is headed up by New York Communities for Change, also is seeking an increase in the minimum wage and wants the right to form a union.
