RICHMOND, Va. (Legal Newsline) -- State Sen. Mark Obenshain has won the GOP nomination for Virginia attorney general.
Obenshain, R-Harrisonburg, beat out Delegate Rob Bell, R-Albemarle, at the state Republican Party's convention Saturday.
"It is a great honor to win the support of my fellow Republicans at Convention, and I look forward to earning the vote of Virginians of all political persuasions in the weeks and months ahead," he said in a statement.
Obenshain commended Bell for an "honorable and spirited campaign on the issues."
"I will be an attorney general for all Virginians -- the coal miners, the commuters, the small business owners, watermen and farmers, immigrants, teachers, young and old, Republicans and Democrats, the successful and the struggling. Because we all have a stake in this thing called liberty," he said.
Obenshain was first elected to the Senate in 2003.
Incumbent Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, a Republican, is running for governor rather than seek a second term as the state's top lawyer.
