TIFFIN, Ohio (Legal Newsline) -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine filed a civil lawsuit Thursday against an Ohio business and its principals for allegedly selling synthetic drugs to customers.

Zig Stag and its principals allegedly engaged in unfair, unconscionable and deceptive acts by selling synthetic drugs as legal products. DeWine's office also filed a nuisance abatement in an attempt to shut the business down for one year.

"Synthetic drugs are deadly, illegal and have no place in Ohio's businesses," DeWine said in a statement. "That's why we are continuing to go after those selling these drugs with the full force of this office."

In February, authorities with DeWine's Bureau of Criminal Investigation worked with the Ohio Department of Taxation and Seneca County's METRICH Drug Task Force in serving a search warrant at Zig Stag.

Zig Stag allegedly sold synthetic cannabinoids, also known as herbal incense or synthetic marijuana. The synthetic drug products allegedly were sold under the street names of Atomic and Shpark in the Dark.

So far in 2013, the Attorney General's Office has filed eight civil lawsuits against state businesses that allegedly sold synthetic drugs. BCI also helped local law enforcement to serve more than a dozen search warrants related to synthetic drugs throughout the state.
