N.M. AG adds good government guide to website

Gking

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (Legal Newsline) - New Mexico Attorney General Gary King has announced his office added his Governmental Conduct Act Compliance Guide to his office's website.

Providing the Governmental Conduct Act Compliance Guide is part of King's continuing effort to encourage government accountability and transparency.

"The Governmental Conduct Act guide now joins the other good government compliance guides on the website so that the public and government entities can easily access this important information," King said. "It is especially vital that public employees understand that the GCA has been upgraded and now expands and clarifies the definition of a public officer or employee covered by the act."

In addition to posting the GCA to his office's website, King's GCA training program has been presented around the state to explain the law to local and state government agency employees who are now subject to the stronger provisions of the GCA. The training is meant to educate local public employees about their new responsibilities under the law.

King's office also posted compliance guides to the Inspection of Public Records Act and the Open Meetings Act to educate public employees about their legal responsibilities.

According to King's website, amendments made to the GCA in 2011 expanded the coverage of the law from state officers to officers and employees of all political subdivisions of the state and their agencies.
