ERWIN, Tenn. (Legal Newsline) -- A written notice of Mountain States Health Alliance's pending acquisition of Unicoi County Memorial Hospital has been submitted to Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper.
UCMH Interim CEO Jete Edmisson told the Johnson City Press Friday that its Board of Control provided Cooper with notice of its intent to transfer the hospital's health care-related assets to MSHA.
Late last month, the UCMH board voted to accept the final definitive agreement for the acquisition.
"By doing this, we're securing the future of health care for Unicoi County," Chairman Roland Bailey said at the time.
The board voted 5-1, with one abstention, at a public meeting held March 28.
Once all the required information has been received by Cooper, his office will have 45 days to review the material for the purpose of verifying that the sale price was fair and the board's selection process followed proper procedures.
According to the Press, MSHA and UCMH officials anticipate the sale's closing will occur on or before June 1.
Pending approval, UCMH will be the 14th hospital in the MSHA system.
