MADISON, Wis. (Legal Newsline) -- Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Pat Roggensack handily defeated a Marquette University law professor for a second 1o-year term on the bench.

Roggensack, 72, defeated Ed Fallone in Tuesday's election. While the race was non-partisan, Roggensack generally was backed by conservatives and Republicans. Her victory maintained the 4-3 conservative edge on the court.

The justice ran on her track record, boasting 17 years experience as a judge. In addition to being a professor, Fallone also was a private practice attorney.

"The public understood that in order to be a justice it's really better to have some experience as a judge," Roggensack said after the victory.

Conservative groups spent more than $500,000 on television spots supporting Roggensack.
