DENVER (Legal Newsline) -- A former Adams County district attorney says he plans to run for Colorado attorney general in 2014.
The Denver Post reported Sunday that Don Quick has mailed his papers to the Secretary of State's Office.
Quick, a Democrat, has been a prosecutor for 25 years, according to the Post.
He also served as an assistant to former Attorney General Ken Salazar, who will leave his post as the U.S. Secretary of the Interior in March.
The 2014 race is an open one. Current Attorney General John Suthers, a Republican, is constitutionally term limited.
Suthers took the office in January 2005 following the departure of Salazar, who resigned to take his seat as a U.S. Senator.
Suthers was elected to a full term in November 2006 and was re-elected in 2010.
According to the Post, at least three Republicans have been mentioned as candidates for attorney general: Chief Deputy Attorney General Cynthia Coffman, House Minority Leader Mark Waller and Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck.
