A large hospital organization was sued on Thursday after a security breach allegedly resulted in the release of personal information for 4.5 million customers.
Patricia McNutt and Scott Hulsey filed the lawsuit against Community Health Systems, Inc. alleging the organization should have done more to prevent customers' information from being released.
Community Health filed a report on Aug. 8 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission stating a security breach occurred in April and June affecting approximately 4.5 million people who used the organization's services within the last five years.
The breach allegedly included the release of Social Security numbers, names, addresses, birthdays, telephone numbers, and possibly credit card, medical and clinical information.
The plaintiffs are seeking class status and more than $5 million in damages plus court costs.
The plaintiffs are represented by Wm. Eric Colley, J. Michael Bowling and Christopher J. Zulanas, of Friedman, Dazzio, Zulanas & Bowling, P.C.
