California Attorney General Kamal Harris recently filed a lawsuit against the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel over allegations of unlawful Internet gaming.

The state alleges the tribal nation, also known as the Santa Ysabel band of Diegueno Mission Indians, is offering bingo to gamblers off of the tribe's land, which violates state and federal laws in addition to an agreement the tribe signed with the state.

The tribe announced it would offer bingo online on Nov. 3 to those 18 years or older. Gamblers create an account on the tribe's website and use credit card information to place bets.

State investigators were able to create an account and participate in the online gaming off of the tribe's land.

The lawsuit said the state's agreement allows the tribe to conduct gambling on gaming devices, as well as  games authorized under state law to the California State Lottery. Internet gaming, though, is not included in the agreement.

The state is asking the court to halt all further gambling on the tribe's website.
