EATON, Ohio (Legal Newsline) - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced a lawsuit on Thursday against the owner of a Preble County garbage collection and disposal business who allegedly failed to deliver services after accepting upfront payments.
Abraham Jaros, doing business as Jaros Enterprises, allegedly advertised that he would collect garbage once a week from consumers in Preble County for $12 a month. He allegedly took upfront payments from more than 600 individuals. Jaros allegedly collected garbage for a few weeks but failed to return to the area.
Consumers alleged that they were forced to dispose of their own trash or hire a new garbage collector after Jaros failed to return.
“Many of these consumers thought they were entering into an agreement with a reputable local business,” DeWine said. “Instead, they ended up with trash sitting outside their homes for days or weeks. Businesses that accept payment from consumers must deliver the promised services or provide refunds. This business did neither.”
DeWine's office and the Better Business Bureau received more than 30 complaints related to Jaros Enterprises.
DeWine's lawsuit alleges Jaros violated Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act and Home Solicitation Sales Act. The suit seeks full restitution for consumers, civil penalties and an injunction to stop further violations.
