CHICAGO (Legal Newsline) — Consumers are alleging in a class action that Walmart knowingly inflates the thread count of its "Hotel Style" sheets.

Amesia Thomas, Pascha Perkins and Vernita Faison, individually and as representative of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint Aug. 10 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois against Walmart Inc., and Walmart Stores Inc., alleging violation of the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act and the Deceptive Business Practices Act and other claims.

According to their class action, the plaintiffs purchased Walmart's "Hotel Style" brand sheets labeled as having an 800 thread count. They claim that Walmart represents an inflated thread count in order to boost sales of the sheets and deceives consumers who seek a higher quality, softer sheet.

The plaintiffs also claim when measured in accordance with industry standards, the thread count for Walmart's Hotel Style sheets is far less. They allege Walmart knew or should have known the thread count represented for the sheets is misleading given the industry standards and FTC guidelines for describing thread counts.

The plaintiffs further claim consumers would not have purchased the sheets or would have only paid a lower price for the sheets if they had known about the inflated thread count. They allege Walmart's actions are "immoral and unethical."

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by. Andrea Gold and Leora Friedman of Tycko & Zavareei LLP in Washington, DC and Frank Bartela and Nicole Fiorelli of Dworken & Bernstein in Painesville, Ohio.
