SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) — A lawsuit alleges the maker of Spindrift Sparkling Water drinks fraudulently label and market its product as having only natural ingredients.

Madeline Pantoni, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed a complaint Jan. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against Spindrift Beverage Company Inc., alleging violation of the California Unfair Competition Law and other claims.

Pantoni claims in her class action that the defendants "falsely and misleadingly" label its various flavors of Spindrift Sparkling Water products and Spiked Sparkling Water as having only two ingredients - sparking water and real fruit. She alleges that the drinks contain citric acid, a synthetic artificial flavoring agent.

Pantoni claims the defendant is taking advantage of "consumers' desire, perceived value and willingness to pay more" for "clean products." She further claims the defendant uses cheaper and easier-to-produce ingredients and falsely markets its Sprindrift Sparkling Water products at the expense of consumers and to maintain an unfair competitive advantage.

Pantoni alleges the defendant not only makes misleading and false statements on the drinks' labeling but also through its website and social media platforms.

Pantoni and the class seek monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Ryan Clarkson, Katherine Bruce, Kelsey Elling and Olivia Treister of The Clarkson Law Firm PC in Malibu, California.
