MIAMI (Legal Newsline) - Following a California ruling that said reasonable consumers could be tricked into thinking Vizzy hard seltzers are healthier than they are, two lawyers have decided to file a class action of their own.

On May 11, Will Wright of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Spencer Sheehan of New York sued Molson Coors Beverage Company. It complains that packaging on Vizzy boasts that the drinks have "antioxidant Vitamin C."

In January, a federal judge in San Francisco let another lawyer's case alleging the same - that the drinks aren't healthy at all, despite their marketing - go forward.

But to reach a day's suggested amount of vitamin C, a drinker would have to take in five Vizzys, the suit says.

"Over many years, consumption of excess alcohol can impair the body's ability to digest and utilize nutrients," the suit says.

Adding antioxidants and the "superfruit" Acerola violates Florida consumer protection laws, the suit claims.
