Coffee companies sued over amount of cups their grounds make

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) - Deborah Bosso filed a federal class action lawsuit on Nov. 23 in Western District of New York against The J. M. Smucker Company and The Folger Coffee Company for allegedly lying about how many cups of coffee their products make.

According to the complaint, Defendants sold products to consumers based on the representation that the product contains enough grounds to make up to a specific number of servings, but the container posed a classic bait-and-switch scheme as containers do not contain enough grounds. The suit alleges that consumers would not have spent the same amount of money on the products had they known they would not make as much coffee as containers advertised.

Bosso was caused to suffer economic injury and deception, the suit says.

Bosso is represented by Innessaq M. Huot of Faruqi and Faruqi, LLP in New York City.
