PASADENA, Calif. (Legal Newsline) – According to a class action lawsuit, Target is misleading its customers with false advertising for its hand sanitizer.

Mardig Taslakian sued Target in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California March 20, seeking to stop the retailer “from engaging in deceptive advertising and business practices concerning false and misleading promotion of its hand sanitizer that purports to eliminate 99.9% of germs."

Taslakian said she purchased the hand sanitizer under the notion that it warded off all but 0.1% of germs, but suggested there aren’t any reports that prove the specific percentage. She also mentioned that the U.S. Food & Drug Administration issued a letter to Purell, questioning the claim that its product kills 99.9% of germs. Target allegedly compares its product to Purell on its website and packaging.

She’s suing for negligent misrepresentation, violations of California’s Business & Professional Code, intentional misrepresentation, and violations of the California Civil Code.

The plaintiffs asked for relief, including an injunction that would stop Target from spreading alleged false statements.

Plaintiff is represented by Sareen Bezdikian of Pasadena, California.
