DLA Piper issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.
DLA Piper announced that Matt Denn, who has served as Delaware's attorney general since 2015, has joined the firm's Litigation practice as a partner in Wilmington.
As attorney general, Denn supervised more than 200 attorneys, representing all state agencies and boards, prosecuting criminal cases, and enforcing consumer protection, data privacy and other statutes. He led efforts in the Delaware General Assembly to combat the opioid crisis, reform criminal justice statutes and improve data security and privacy statutes.
"Matt's exemplary career in public service, and particularly his time as Delaware's attorney general, gives him a unique perspective that will be of significant benefit to clients," said Loren Brown, co-chair of DLA Piper's global and US Litigation practices. "His experience will enhance our capacity for state attorney general-focused work, and he will be able to leverage DLA Piper's geographic reach and global platform."
"Matt is a well-known lawyer with a stellar reputation, both in Delaware and across the country with his fellow attorneys general," said Stuart Brown, managing partner of the firm's Wilmington office. "He has developed valuable relationships across numerous industries during his years in the public sector, and we are thrilled that he has joined the firm."
Denn will also be actively involved in the firm's pro bono practice, to which the firm has an extraordinary commitment. Denn's pro bono work will focus on the needs of at-risk children in Delaware.
Denn received his J.D. from Yale Law School and his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. Before his election to attorney general, he served as Delaware's lieutenant governor and as the state's insurance commissioner.
