SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Legal Newsline) – The Illinois attorney general filed a lawsuit Aug. 29 against a Pekin, Illinois residential well drilling company who allegedly took thousands of dollars from Illinois residents for well drilling services that were never completed.

The suit was filed in Peoria County Circuit Court.

According to Illinois State Attorney General Lisa Madigan, her office received several complaints against Robert Williams, owner of Sauder Well Drilling LLC, from customers who alleged they paid large deposits for drilling, well and pump construction and the well drilling never took place. Deposits allegedly ranged from more than $4,000 to more than $15,000. The residents alleged that after an initial survey of the customer's property by Sauder Well Drilling, no further work was done and no refunds were provided, the attorney general's office said.

“Sauder Well Drilling received thousands of dollars from families who were relying on its drilling services for access to drinking water,” Madigan said in a statement. “My lawsuit seeks refunds for Peoria County residents.”

According to Madigan's office, Williams failed to respond or appear to a subpoena issued by Madigan. The attorney general is seeking restitution for the homeowners affected and is asking the court to void any of Sauder's existing contracts. The attorney general is also seeking to halt Sauder from operating in the state until it responds to the subpoena and to pay civil penalties.
