TULSA, Okla. (Legal Newsline) — Dozens of residents of Ottawa County, Oklahoma, are suing Michelin North America Inc. and B.F. Goodrich Company, alleging liability and negligence for pollution in their community.

Amber Aikwig filed a complaint on June 13 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma against the defendants alleging that they discharged harsh and dangerous chemicals from their facility in Miami, Oklahoma.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they were damaged due to the discharge of harmful chemicals from a tire and rubber manufacturing plant run by the defendants that closed in 1986. The plaintiffs hold Michelin and B.F. Goodrich responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to put in place a safety plan in order to prevent harmful chemicals from being discharged from their facility to affect nearby homeowners.

The plaintiffs seek civil penalties of $25,000 up to $75,000 per day, court costs and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by R. Christopher Cowan of Cowan Law Firm in Dallas.
