Environmental group alleges company pollutes Los Angeles waters

LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) — An environmental group is suing a California company, alleging violation of federal law.

California Communities Against Toxics filed a complaint May 19 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against MATTCO Forge,Inc. and Does 1 through 10, alleging they discharge storm water into the Los Angeles waterways.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was damaged on behalf of the public that will be damaged due to the pollution of the Los Angeles water ways. The plaintiff alleges MATTCO discharges pollutants and contaminated water from their facility into the water ways.

The plaintiff seeks enjoin the defendant, order the defendant to comply with the permit's monitoring and reporting requirements, order the defendant to pay civil penalties up to $37,500 per day per violation since March 21, 2012, and up to $51,570 for violations occurring after Nov. 2, 2015, order the defendant to restore the quality of waters impaired by their activities, attorney fees, and all relief deemed just by the court. It is represented by attorney Jesse Colorado Swanhuyser of Anacapa Law Group Inc. in Santa Barbara, California.
