WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) — Four current or former government officials and two private citizens are suing the Federal Election Commission, alleging violation of federal law.

U.S. Reps Ted Lieu and Walter Jones, U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, retired Minnesota state Sen. John Howe, Zephyr Teachout and Michael Wager filed a lawsuit Nov. 4 in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the Federal Election Commission alleging the defendant failed to act on the plaintiffs' complaint.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs suffered damages because the FEC intentionally delayed their agency's action regarding the plaintiffs' complaint about campaign financing.

The plaintiffs seek an order for the FEC to conform with this declaration within 30 days, court costs and any further relief this court grants. They are represented by attorneys Stephen A. Weisbrod of Weisbrod Matteis & Copley PLLC in Washington, Brad Deutsch of Garvey Schubert Barer in Washington and by Malcolm Seymour and Andrew Goodman of Garvey Schubert Barer in New York.
