TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - Over the past few months, Charlie Crist, the Democratic candidate for Florida governor, has been getting a financial boost from a renowned Texas trial lawyer.

Evidently, the Gulf of Mexico isn't the only thing Florida and Texas share, as the Lone Star state's biggest political donor, Houston attorney Steve Mostyn, has been spreading his wealth across state lines, contributing $400,000 to Crist's PAC.

Campaign finance records show that on Feb. 26 Mostyn donated $300,000 to Charlie Crist for Florida. Before that, Mostyn made donations to the PAC on Nov. 30 of $90,000 and $10,000.

According to the Florida Department of State, Crist's PAC has raised more than $3.5 million in donations.

Christ, the former Republican governor of Florida, flipped parties in 2012. He declared his intentions to seek the Democratic nomination for governor last November.

After Crist's reign as governor ended in 2011, he joined the Tampa personal injury law firm Morgan & Morgan.

Mostyn, who is also a plaintiffs attorney and founder of the Mostyn Law Firm, made more than $150 million in attorneys fees in the wake of Hurricane Ike by filing thousands of lawsuits against the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association - the lone provider of windstorm insurance for Texas gulf coast residents.
