WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) -- The American Bar Association, one of the nation's largest voluntary bar associations, is hosting a panel discussion Wednesday on intellectual property theft.
The discussion, "State AGs Target IP Piracy to Strengthen Fair Competition Among Manufacturers," will focus on software piracy, which some contend gives low-cost competitors that use stolen IT and IP an unfair advantage and creates cyber security risks.
Several state attorneys general have brought enforcement actions to level the playing field for those law-abiding manufacturers, as well as IT and IP companies.
Former Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna, and the co-founder of the National Association of Attorneys General's Intellectual Property Task Force, will serve as the discussion's moderator.
The panelists include Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper and Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt.
Stacie Lambert deBlieux, assistant attorney general of Louisiana; Nicole Y. Lamb-Hale, former U.S. assistant secretary of Commerce for Manufacturing and Services; and Travis LeBlanc, former special assistant attorney general of California, also will take part in the talk.
The discussion, presented by the ABA's Section of Antitrust Law's committees on state enforcement, media and technology, will be held at the National Association of Manufacturers' headquarters in Washington D.C., from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The event is free to Antitrust Section members and non-members.
