Report: Calif. AG joins suit over toll road extension

Harris

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Legal Newsline) -- California Attorney General Kamala Harris reportedly has joined a lawsuit to stop the extension of a southern Orange County toll road.

According to the Orange County Register, Harris joined the suit over the $200 million extension late last month.

The attorney general argues that plans for the extension of State Route 241 haven't taken into account the possible environmental effects.

According to the Foothill-Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency, connecting the toll road to Interstate 5 near Basilone Road has been part of a "comprehensive" county, state and federal transportation planning effort for more than 30 years.

The agency says it was designed to plan for expected growth in the region, alleviate future traffic congestion and accommodate the need for mobility, access, goods movement on Interstate 5 through southern Orange County.

When completed, 241 will provide a "desperately needed" alternative to Interstate 5, serving the 21 million residents of San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties, according to the agency's website.
