DeWine
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Legal Newsline) - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced a lawsuit on Wednesday against a Columbus-based home improvement contractor for alleged violations of Ohio consumer law.
Steven DeMatteo, doing business as DeMatteo Stucco and Stone, allegedly took money from consumers for various home improvement jobs, including repairing stucco and stone, but either failed to deliver or performed shoddy work.
"This spring, I want to remind consumers how important it is to check out a home improvement contractor before making any payments," DeWine said. "In this case, consumers paid the business for services they never received or for work that was done poorly."
DeWine alleges that DeMatteo violated Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act by failing to deliver, violated the Deposit Rule by accepting deposits without providing consumers with a dated receipt and performed shoddy and substandard work.
The lawsuit seeks civil penalties, consumer restitution and injunctive relief.
