LANSING, Mich. (Legal Newsline) -A Wayne County Circuit Court judge is to announce today that she is running for a seat on the Michigan Supreme Court.

Diane Marie Hathaway is seeking the Democratic nomination for the high court. She is challenging incumbent Chief Justice Clifford Taylor, who was recently nominated by Republicans for another eight-year term on the high court.

Taylor has been on the state Supreme Court since 1997, when Gov. John Engler to fill the seat vacated by retiring Justice Dorothy Comstock Riley. He was elected in 1998.

One of Hathaway's colleagues in Wayne County, Judge Deborah Thomas, has also expressed interest in seeking the Democratic nomination.
The Democratic nominee will be decided this weekend at the state Democratic convention.

Hathaway, a judge since 1993, was a candidate for the state Court of Appeals in 2006. She finished third, behind two incumbent judges.
