Tape shows Dann cursing reporter

Dann

Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann's name recently made it out of the blogosphere and onto youtube.com.

A clip showing the controversial first-term Democrat screaming an obscenity at a reporter has been viewed more than 1,700 times on the video-sharing website as of Thursday afternoon.

The 30-second excerpt is lifted out of a WYTV report from June 20. The station is an ABC affiliate in Youngstown and says Dann was upset with a report that was published a day earlier in the Warren-based Tribune-Chronicle.

That report describes how a woman for whom Dann acted as guardian and the fiancee of a campaign contributor were hired recently by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner's office. According to WYTV, Dann's staff called the report, written by Steve Oravecz, "senseless."

Dann was also recently in the news in Cleveland, where the Plain Dealer reports he claimed the Attorney General's office is on its way to becoming the largest plaintiffs firm in the state.

Dann is scheduled to speak Friday at the City Club in Cleveland about the states' need to pick up the slack for federal regulators when it comes to protecting consumers, investors and taxpayers.

He certainly is attempting to do just that. Recently, Dann led in the filing of a brief on behalf of several state attorneys general who are concerned with the outcome of a U.S. Supreme Court case that, if successful, would allow investors to sue third parties like banks, accountants and law firms when those companies they represent have committed fraud.

He is also pushing for an investigation of the Securities and Exchange Commission and awaiting a state Supreme Court decision that will determine the future of his public nuisance lawsuit against companies that used to manufacture lead-based paint.
