On May 12, 2025, United States District Court Judge Terry F. Moorer sentenced Robert Leon Johnson to 294 months in prison for possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine. According to court documents, on March 31, 2023, a Mobile Police Officer observed Johnson driving a motorcycle and initiated a traffic stop near his home. Johnson was seen carrying a black backpack and was bending up from the front of a vehicle parked on his property when approached by the officer.

Another officer arrived shortly after and found the same black backpack hidden under the front of the vehicle. A search revealed two plastic bags containing approximately 131.3 grams of methamphetamine and $1,176 in U.S. currency inside the backpack. Johnson has an extensive criminal history.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the City of Mobile Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George F. May.
