Attorney General Lynn Fitch warnedMississippians to be aware of unapproved and compounded weight lossproducts on the market. These misrepresented drugs can pose a serious safetyand health risk to consumers and can cause significant, long lastingconsequences to their health."It is critical that consumers remain vigilant and ensure that they arepurchasing safe, regulated weight loss drugs," said Attorney General Fitch."I urge Mississippians to work with their licensed prescriber and pharmacistwhen taking these prescription medications and to purchase them only from alicensed and regulated source. If you think you have purchased an unapprovedproduct, please report it to my office."With the rise in popularity of weight loss drugs, deceptive sellers are makingmisleading health claims and promoting unapproved and compoundedtirzepatide and semaglutide products in formulations that have never beenevaluated by any regulatory agency and may never have been tested, such assublingual drops, lozenges or films taken under the tongue, topical skinpatches, and nasal sprays.Compounded tirzepatide and semaglutide products that are sold bycompounding pharmacies, outsourcing facilities, med-spas, wellness centers,online retailers, and individuals on social media may not be approved by theFood and Drug Administration (FDA).

Tips to Protect Yourself:

  • Be aware of suspiciously low prices of weight loss drugs sold byunlicensed providers.
  • Consult with your medical provider before using any pharmaceuticalmedication.
  • Avoid products marketed as "research-grade" or "research-use-only".
  • Be cautious when purchasing any pharmaceutical online and ensure thatyou are buying from a licensed pharmacy.
  • Check for FDA approval or regulatory clearance of the drug before use.
  • Beware of products that promise rapid or dramatic weight loss with littleeffort.
  • Avoid drugs or supplements that do not list all ingredients or come inunmarked packaging.
  • Be wary of products sold or shipped from another country.
  • Talk to your prescriber about sellers offering to sell more than threemonths of a GLP-1 medication at once.
