A Dixmont woman has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor for her involvement in a drug trafficking ring operating in northern Maine. Sarah McBreairty, 36, received a sentence of 60 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. In March 2023, McBreairty pleaded guilty to charges of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl and making false statements to a federal firearms licensee.
Court records indicate that between January 2018 and December 2021, McBreairty was involved in trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl across Penobscot and Aroostook counties. She coordinated with an out-of-state supplier using coded language over phone calls and texts to obtain drugs, which she then distributed through local dealers. The proceeds from these activities were used to purchase more drugs. Additionally, McBreairty and a co-defendant attempted to acquire firearms by providing false information to a federal firearms licensee.
This case is part of a larger investigation involving 22 defendants charged with participating in the drug trafficking conspiracy. Nineteen have been sentenced so far, while three are awaiting sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency with assistance from police departments in Orono, Bangor, Brewer, Caribou, Presque Isle, and Houlton. The U.S. Attorney’s Office acknowledged the support of the Maine State Attorney General’s Office and the Aroostook County District Attorney’s Office.
This prosecution is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) initiative aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations threatening the United States through coordinated efforts among various law enforcement agencies.
