Barbara T. Kaplan and Kristen J. Lonergan, shareholders in the New York office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, have been recognized as Crain’s New York “Notable Women in Law.” According to the Crain’s website, the list recognizes the brightest and boldest legal minds with notable careers and extraordinary civic and philanthropic activities who have impacted New York City in major ways. Kaplan is co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s global Tax Practice, and Lonergan is a shareholder in the Real Estate Practice.
Kaplan focuses her tax litigation practice on domestic and foreign corporations, partnerships, and individuals in federal, state, and local tax examinations, controversies, and litigation, including administrative and grand jury criminal tax investigations. She has been named one of the top 50 women lawyers in New York City by Super Lawyers magazine, and in 2016, Kaplan was a winner at the Euromoney Legal Media Group’s annual “Americas Women in Business Law Awards.” She is a member of the tax sections of the American and New York Bar Associations, a member of the American Association for Justice, and a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel.
Lonergan provides counsel to REITs, investment funds, developers, lenders, and other clients on the acquisition, development, financing, and disposition of multi-family, office, hotel, and other types of properties throughout New York and the rest of the country. She has been recognized among the Top 100 Lawyers in New York and Top 50 Female Lawyers in New York by Super Lawyers magazine. She is a board member for The Child Center of New York; serves on the Real Estate Board of New York; is a member of the Association of Real Estate Women and the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network; and is a fellow of the American Bar Federation.
