BROOKLYN, NY (Legal Newsline) – Maryland-based insurance companies allege that New York corporation submitted fraudulent claims.
Government Employees Insurance Co., GEICO Indemnity Co., GEICO General Insurance Co. and GEICO Casualty Co. filed a complaint on May 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York against SIGMA Med Care Inc., Alexander Chernyshev, Aris Grigoryan, John Doe companies one to three and John Does 1- alleging common law fraud, unjust enrichment and other counts.
According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that the defendants submitted "hundreds of fraudulent claims" for paying of durable medical equipment and orthodic devices.
The plaintiffs hold defendants responsible because they allegedly intentionally and knowingly made false and fraudulent statements and concealed material facts in their submission of the fraudulent bills.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek declaratory judgment, award compensatory damages in an amount of more than $180,500 together with punitive damages, costs, interest, and such other and further relief as the court deems just and proper.
