SAN DIEGO (Legal Newsline) – A consumer claims the My Little Steamer appliance does not work as advertised.

Barbara Seldin, hoping to lead a class action, filed a complaint on Oct. 25 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California against HSN Inc., Ingenious Designs LLC and Joy Mangano citing the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in September 2016, after purchasing the defendants' My Little Steamer for $15, the steamer leaked and spewed hot water and steam whenever she plugged the unit into an electrical outlet.

The plaintiff claims the product was warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal uses and service but the steamer leaked and spewed boiling water despite using the unit properly.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly engaging in unlawful business acts and practices by selling products that are unfit for their intended and advertised use and failed to disclose the dangers of the products.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an award for restitution and other equitable relief, injunctive relief, grant of costs, attorneys' fees, and such other and further relief as the court may deem appropriate. She is represented by Christa L. Collins of Harmon, Woods & Parker, PA in Tampa, Florida; and J. Andrew Meyer of J. Andrew Meyer PA in Redington Beach, Florida.
