NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) — A New York woman has filed a class action lawsuit against an energy company, alleging fraud, negligent misrepresentation and unfair competition.

Danielle Bell of New City, New York, filed a complaint, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, May 30 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against Gateway Energy Services Corporation and Direct Energy Services, LLC, alleging they made false representations regarding their natural gas product in order to inflate its prices.

According to the complaint, Bell was damaged financially from having paid more for natural gas and/ or electricity than she should have. The plaintiff alleges the defendants made false promises to Bell in order to lure her into accepting their service.

Bell seeks trial by jury, damages, treble damages, injunctive relief, punitive damages, interest, attorney fees, court costs and all other relief the court deems just. She is represented by attorneys Jonathan Shub, Kevin Laukaitis and Harper Segui of Kohn, Swift & Graf PC in Philadelphia.
