WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) — A cosmetology schools association is suing the U.S. education secretary, alleging violation of federal law.

The American Association of Cosmetology Schools filed a complaint Feb. 10 in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against Education Secretary Elisabeth DeVos, alleging she refused to under-report the plaintiff's regulations.

According to the complaint, the association was damaged from having being forced to close some of its programs because DeVos acknowledges programs offered by the plaintiff but refuses to under-report its regulations causing them to close down those programs.

The plaintiff seeks to declare DeVos' gainful employment regulations are arbitrary and capricious, enjoin the defendant, and all other relief the court deems just and proper. It is represented by attorneys Robert L. Shapiro and Edward Cramp of Duane Morris LLP in Washington.
