LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) — A California man filed a class action lawsuit against a tax business, alleging violation of telephone harassment statutes.

Jonathan Payton filed a complaint, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, Jan. 27 in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Tax Help Group LLC, alleging the defendant sent several unwanted advertising text messages to the plaintiff's cellular telephone.

According to the complaint, in August 2016, Payton suffered monetary damages from receiving unwanted promotional offers and advertisement text messages from Tax Help Group. The plaintiff alleges the defendant sent promotional offers to the plaintiff via text message despite having no prior consent from Payton.

Payton seeks trial by jury, $500 in statutory damages, injunctive relief, $1,500 in treble statutory damages, and all other relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorneys Todd M. Friedman, Meghan E. George and Adrian R. Bacon of Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman PC in Woodland Hills, California.
