WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) — Two environmental groups are suing the FDA, alleging violation of federal law.

Environmental Working Group and Women's Voices for the Earth filed a lawsuit Dec. 13 in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Dr. Robert M. Califf, alleging they failed to take timely action on keratin hair straighteners.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs suffered damages on behalf of the consumers because the defendants allowed the public to use keratin hair straighteners that contain harmful chemicals.

The plaintiffs seek to declare the defendants have unreasonably delayed acting on the petition, retain jurisdiction of this matter, court costs and any further relief the court grants. They are represented by attorney Ronald F. Wick of Cohen & Gresser LLP in Washington, D.C.
