LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) - An individual has filed suit against a Pakistan-based television station and its broadcaster for alleged libel and slander that occurred in a segment that aired.
Imaad Zuberi filed a complaint June 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Airwaves Media (Pvt.) Ltd., the owner of TV One News, Shahid Masood and John Does 1-10, alleging they issued false statements against the plaintiff in retaliation for money owed by the defendant for a $25,000 loan.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges he suffered damages to his reputation. The plaintiff holds Airwaves Media, Masood and the Does responsible because the defendants allegedly made false and defamatory statements regarding the plaintiff and allowed the defendant Masood to broadcast said statements.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks general damages not less than $1,000,000, special damages not less than $1 million, exemplary and punitive damages, nominal damages, damages for breach of contract in the principal amount of $25,000, interest, all legal fees and any other relief as the court deems just.
