Macy's, Bloomingdale's sued over alleged price scheming

SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) – A California woman and a Florida woman are suing national retail clothing stores over claims of price scheming.

Kristin Haley and Sylvia Thompson, individually and for all others similarly situated, filed a class-action lawsuit Dec. 23 in the Northern District of Florida against Macy's and Bloomingdale's, alleging violations of California's Consumer Legal Remedies Act, violations of Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, false advertising and unfair, fraudulent and unlawful business practices.

The suit states the defendants misrepresented the nature of price discounts for products sold in their regular and outlet stores by offering large discounts off of fabricated or false original, regular, or "compare at" prices.

According to the suit, thousands of consumers, including the plaintiffs, were victims of the defendants' deceptive pricing schemes.

The plaintiffs and others in the class seek restitution and disgorgement, injunctive relief, interests, attorney fees, and other costs of the suit, together to exceed $5 million. They are represented by attorney Robert S. Green of Green & Noblin in Larkspur, California, and by attorney Kenneth G. Gilman of Gilman Law in Bonita Springs, Florida.
