WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) – The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has developed a qualitative survey method of learning about consumer experiences in buying and financing automobiles at dealerships and it currently seeks public comment on it.
The FTC would like to consider these comments before it seeks clearance from the Office of Management and Budget to put the survey into effect. This is all in an effort to help protect consumers in automobile-related transactions.
Looking out for deceptive advertising and other illegal practices, the FTC has worked on more than 25 cases in this arena. The potential survey would help the FTC because it would give insights directly from consumers on transactions that take place at the dealership.
Through the public comments, the FTC is looking to find out whether the survey is necessary and useful, the accuracy of estimates of the burden on consumers to be surveyed and ways they can enhance the survey and its collection.
