Florida AG takes action against travel companies for allegedly deceiving consumers

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) – Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, along with the Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, have announced actions taken to stop two Florida travel companies from allegedly deceiving consumers – Millennium Travel and Promotions Inc. and Grand Incentives Inc.

Complaints arose that the defendants advertised items for free but allegedly later charged for them and sold vacation packages that could never be used to due to extensive blackout dates. These travel companies allegedly refused to provide refunds and also made unauthorized charges on credit cards.

“People plan and save for years to pay for a family vacation and it is disgraceful that anyone would use deceptive and unfair trade practices to take their money and ruin their plans,” Bondi said. “Thanks to this coordinated effort with Commissioner Putnam, we are taking action on behalf of travelers and to protect families from harmful business practices.”

Bondi’s office seeks consumer restitution, civil penalties and injunctive relief over alleged violations of the state's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.

“I thank Attorney General Bondi for her action against these travel companies, which allegedly defrauded consumers. By taking this swift action, my department and her office have helped protect Florida’s consumers from deceptive business practices,” Putnam said.

The attorney general's office has also filed a complaint against another travel company, Global Connections Inc., for allegedly selling vacation club memberships and not honoring its cancellation policy or make customers aware of its terms and conditions.
